How to Descale your Dishwasher and Keep it Clean
Like any good appliance whether in business or the home if we want our dishwasher to perform at its best and keep our dishes clean it has to be maintained. We rarely stop to think about how the dishwasher stays clean. It’s taken for granted that because it cleans dish’s it stays clean by itself. By keeping the Dishwasher clean it will improve the cleanliness of your dishes, cutlery and glasses leaving them with that lustrous sparkle.
What are the problems?
Dirty dishwashers or glass washers will start to smell, and that smell can transfer to your dishes. It will also discourage customers from coming to your business or home.
Build-up of food scraps and debris along with detergent residues and sediment in water will clog your dishwasher. When your machine suffers from clogging the water quality deteriorates dramatically resulting in dirty plates, glasses, dishes etc. Clogging also affects the amount of water getting into the dishwasher to clean your dishes etc. This often results in further problems with your dishwasher leading to costly repairs.
When there is food or chemical residue left stuck to the dishes etc. you’re trying to get clean – You now have serious problems loss of custom damage to reputation possible poisoning of customers where do we stop. Not to mention the obvious task that you’ll end up having to wash the dishes again probably by hand, which is not why you bought the dishwasher in the first place.
A poor water supply whether its Hard Water causing a calcium build up that leads to serious damage to pumps, side arms, rinsers and more means your dishwashers becomes less efficient. Low efficiency means you need to use more resources to clean your dishes, making the process less eco-friendly – Something everyone is trying to improve on.
So we’ve given you some of the reasons why we should keep our dishwasher clean now let’s look at some solutions at addressing the problem.
Visual Inspection
When it’s empty let’s start with giving the dishwasher the once over by looking inside. Check the door, walls, racks, and utensil caddy. Remove anything you can visually see stuck inside: food residue, debris from labels, utensils or small items which may have fallen into the bottom of the dishwasher. Check the spinning arms, detergent holder, drain for excessive debris build-up.
Improving Efficiency after Inspection (How to Descale your Dishwasher)
Now we’ve removed all excess debris, waste and bits it’s time to break up the invisible problems, in pipes, tubes drainage etc. there will be significant build-up of Grease, Fats, Calcium and much more. So I would start by running a cycle using Antikalk. Just add the recommended dosage and run a full cycle on the hottest setting (with the dishwasher empty, of course), and enjoy the results.
It is recommended to follow these guidelines every 6-8 weeks unless you have a serious hard water problem. In this case a simple technique of improving the efficiency of your dishwasher is to use Dishwasher Salt to soften the water in hard water areas, this simple solution will save you a fortune in on-going repairs.
Remember a cleaner dishwasher means cleaner dishes by following these guidelines you extend the life of your appliance saving both time and money.
